Cardamom


Description :
Cardamom is an evergreen, perennial ginger-like plant, with thick rhizomes and erect stems, bearing pointed leaves. White flowers with a pink to violet striped lip are born in a loose spike in summers, followed by pale green to beige, 3-celled capsules or pods, containing 15-20 aromatic seeds. The small, brown-black sticky seeds are contained in three double rows, with about six seeds in each row. The seeds are pungent, warm and aromatic. Elettaria and Amomum are the two main genera of the ginger family that are named as forms of cardamom. Elettaria is commonly called cardamom, green cardamom, or true cardamom, whereas Amomum is commonly known as black cardamom, brown cardamom, Kravan, Java cardamom, Bengal cardamom, Siamese cardamom, white or red cardamom.

  • Cardamom is used internally for indigestion, nausea, vomiting and pulmonary disease with copious phlegm.

Marigold


Description :
An annual herbaceous plant, calendula blooms at the start of almost every calendar month. The basal leaves are spathulate and stalked, while the pale green stem leaves are lanceolate, alternate and sessile. The plant bears flowers in bright yellow, red and orange colors. The fruits are rough and curved achene. The plant is cultivated in the kitchen gardens around India, for the flowers that are dried for broth. Marigold is native to Egypt and the Mediterranean, but has become naturalized in the temperate regions of the world. It can be found throughout India and is widely grown in the Valley of Flowers in Ranthambore National Park. The plant is known as zergul in Hindi.

Home Remedies for Bed Wetting

Bedwetting is a common phenomenon among some small kids. The children who suffer from this disorder urinate during their sleep, wetting the bed. This happens without the knowledge of the child as they do not have any control over this. Bedwetting which is also called as Enuresis puts both child as well as the parent in an embarrassing position. Bedwetting disrupts the kid’s sleep as it wakes up when it feels the wetness in the cloths and bed sheets. The child feels uncomfortable and embarrassed when he knows the bedwetting habit.    

One hour before going to bed take six to eight oz. of cranberry juice.

Bedwetting can also be treated using herbs like Causticum, Lycopodium, Ursi, Corn Silk going.

Drink herbal tea made from herbs like Oakbark, Wormwood.

Retention control training - Practice retention control by postponing urination during the day, first by a few minutes and then by gradually increased amounts of time. This exercise will help strengthen the muscles that control urination and also increase the capacity of the bladder.

Avoid taking liquids before bedtime and make sure you empty the bladder before hitting the sack.

Eat parsley and cinnamon bark. Eat fresh and natural foods like leafy vegetables, brown rice and so on. To prevent bedwetting due to constipation eat a fiber rich diet. Eat diet rich in silica, magnesium and calcium. Some of the rich sources of these nutrients are milk, banana, sesame, and almonds.

During the day, let your children hold the urine for a long time. This will encourage bladder control.

Plenty of fluid in-take during the day and only small quantities when required at night.

Involve your child in daily activities like arranging bed, laundering the sheets.

Diapers should be used only till the age of four. At night times make children wear extra thick pairs of underwear to absorb the urine. Arrange a plastic cover on their bedding topped with 2 sets of sheets, with a rubber pad between them.

Before going to bed, get the child to empty his bladder to the maximum.

Home Remedies For Back Pain

Backache, one of the most common ailment result in constant pain, at times unbearable and severe. It might lead to difficulty in bending forward and also on sideways. Feeling as if entire area is sore and sensitive to even slight touch.   

The treatment for back pain depends on the cause. In general however, you can use the following home remedies for back pain:  
  • Apply a hot compress using a hot water bottle.
  • A hot bath also usually helps. If possible, you should sit in a warm tub for a few minutes.
  •  Exercise in order to strengthen the back muscles. Simple stretching exercises are also useful, both when you have a back ache and on a regular basis.
  •  Try to relax and get enough rest to avoid both mental stress and physical strain on your back.
  •  If possible, get a massage. This does not have to be by a professional - a family member can do it equally well as long as they do not use excessive force. Preferably this should be done using massage oil such as eucalyptus oil. Excellent oil is mustard oil in which a little garlic has been fried.
  •  Vitamin C and calcium supplements may help, but consult your doctor before doing this.
  •  If you have a chronic back problem, keep yourself warm and eat hot items.
  •  Include garlic in your daily diet. It is an effective home remedy for back pain.
  •  Boil ten Tulasi leaves in one cup of water until the syrup is reduced to half a cup. Add salt to it after cooling. Take this mixture daily. For severe backache, take it twice a day.
  •  A self massage with Eucalyptus Oil is known to be beneficial. You could also use mustard oil. It is a good remedy for backache.
  •  Guggul is very helpful. Eat half a teaspoon twice a day after meals with warm water.
  •  You can take a mixture of five Black Pepper corn, five cloves and one-gram dry ginger powder in your tea at least twice a day.
  •  Take half a gram of Dalchini powder with one-teaspoon honey at least twice a day for best results.
  •  Gently massage the aching area. It will give you relief from back pain.
  •  Include in diet tomato, carrot, cabbage, cucumber, lettuce, and at least two lightly cooked vegetables such as cauliflower, spinach, carrot, fruits.
  •  While sleeping, sleep on a firm mattress. Avoid sleeping face down.

Saptaparna


Description :
An evergreen tree from east Asia and Philippines large leathery leaves and small green-white flowers in compact cymes; bark formerly used medicinally. The tree grows 13 to 17 metres high, has a furrowed trunk, oblong stalked leaves up to 1.5cm long and 0.5cm wide, dispersed in four to six whorls round the stem, their upper side glossy, under side white, nerves running at right angles to the mid-rib. The bark is almost odourless and very bitter, in commerce it is found in irregular fragments, texture spongy, fracture coarse and short, outside layer rough, uneven, fissured, brownish-grey and sometimes blackish spots; inside layer bright buff, transverse section shows number of small medullary rays in inner layer.

• Prepare a mixture by adding 1/4 cup each of comfrey infusion and witch hazel, along with 10 drops of patchouli essential oil. Store the solution in a bottle and apply on the affected area with a cotton ball, every night.
• Applying coconut oil on the wrinkled skin is considered to be a good home remedy. However, make sure you apply it only before going to bed.
• Take a little turmeric powder and add sugarcane juice to it. Form a paste and apply it on the wrinkles. Once dry, rinse it off the face. This is a useful way to get rid of wrinkles.
• Take a green seedless grape and cut it into half. Now, rub one of the halves on the wrinkled face. Leave it for 20 minutes, before rinsing off with warm water.

• Another helpful home remedy would be to apply the juice of green pineapples and apples on the face, everyday, for about 10 to 15 minutes. Apart from removing the wrinkles, it also helps in healing cracked skin.
• Applying lemon juice several times a day is likely to be effective in getting rid of the wrinkles.
• In 2 cups of water, add half cup of rosemary leaves and simmer for half an hour. To this, add half cup of brandy and leave on flame for 10-15 minutes. Let the mixture cool down, strain it and store. Use it to wipe the face twice every day.
• Another effective way to treat wrinkles would be to have a tbsp of shredded ginger with honey, as it will provide the skin with a healthy glow.
• Put a metal spoon in the freezer overnight. In the morning, keep the back of the spoons on the eyes. Apart from curing the eye wrinkles, it will help in removing dark circles.
• In a bowl, mix 2 tbsp vodka, 1 tbsp fennel seeds and 2 tsp honey. Leave the mixture for three days. Thereafter, use it as a toner.
• Massage the wrinkled area with castor oil. This would be helpful in removing the wrinkles.
